FAQ
-
Who can help?Literally everyone. Social media and technology has made it easier than ever for us to help others when we aren't in that location!
-
Where do we get our information? All information is directly from a Hawaii Resident and verified source.
-
Do residents have to pay taxes on donations? We are working hard to coordinate information to every donation recipient discussing how they can get around taxes such as claiming all donations as "Gifts" from Venmo. GoFundMe has more complex rules, thus we are recruiting the help of CPAs who can volunteer their time and knowledge to help these residents keep most, if not all, of their donations.
-
What is the expected casualty loss?Media states around 98 victims so far while residents are reporting it already in the hundreds.
-
Did a laser beam start the fires? As of this moment, many residents are stating it was a brush fire that wasn't put out completely. Speculation is stating a laser beam does not cause black smoke, while most residents report thick, black smoke. Regardless, we need to focus on getting the residents' homes rebuilt and then we can get into how the fire was caused later.
-
Where the kids really home?Unfortunately, the kids were sent home earlier in the day due to a high wind advisory. Many parents did not know they were home because they didn't have cell service to get the notification. *Read at your own discretion* - due to children's bones not being fully developed, there is a high chance no remains survived the inferno and it is expected many children will not be found.
-
Why didn't the evacuation alarms go off? This still has not been answered by the Hawaiian local government.
